Last Week
In spite of wind, rain and Tsunami warnings, there is still some diving going on. Wasn't last Tuesday just a 'cracker ' of a day?

Good dive conditions as well. (15 metres viz) We had cancelled dives late last week due to the swell but were looking forward to getting out on the water on Sunday morning. What could you do? After the tragic earthquake and the threat of a huge Tsunami, the only responsible decision was to cancel the dive. These things happen unfortunately but we can be thankful for the fact that we don't have to deal with the tragedy that faces Chile; all we had to deal with was the disappointment of not going for a dive when the conditions looked good. That is such a small price to pay in comparison. Thank you for the understanding of all of our customers except one who was not happy with the decision. I'll say no more on that one.
Yesterday (1.03.10)
The good news is that we did get out for a dive on the HMAS BRISBANE yesterday and divers reported 15-20 metres visibility. With only 1 metre of sea we had a boat load of very happy divers after completing 2 great dives with unreal visibility. On their second dive the surface couple of metres clouded over but once you descended through that, it opened up to 20 metre viz again.
This week:
Doesn't look like we'll be out until the weekend again now. Most likely a rainy weekend but it looks like the sea conditions will ease right down and give us a chance to get out diving once again.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 22nd February - 29th February 2010
It is great to see the rain which is something we need on a regular basis but divers quite often get disgruntled when it appears.

No sun does take a little from the visibility but not much. The run off out of the rivers and creeks can play havoc with visibility on our close in reefs.
The HMAS BRISBANE is just that little bit further north east of the river outflows and seems to miss the effects of the rainwater run off. Sunday was a prime example. A number of divers made their own assessment that it would be lousy and so canned their dive or decided not to book. Those brave souls who ventured out were rewarded with 15 metres of visibility and marine life that was “just going off’ to quote a couple who joined us. The swell had dropped quite quickly too so it ended up being a great day’s diving.
Tuesday looks like being a pearler of a day with virtually no wind predicted, the seas flattening right out and good viz. We’ll have to adopt a wait and see attitude for the weekend. The long range forecasts can sometimes be a little inaccurate.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 12th February - 19th February 2010
Deep indigo blue water, flat seas and 15-20 metres of visibility. This is what our divers
reported on our first venture out to the HMAS BRISBANE since our last trip on Sunday morning
7th Feb.

The big swells that were pushed up along the coast caused us to cancel the Sunday
afternoon dive and dives all this week till yesterday, Thursday. After all of the rain we had
dumped on us, who would have expected the conditions that the team experienced yesterday.
They all came back pumped after 2 fantastic dives on the HMAS BRISBANE and promising to
return to dive it again.
We haven't dived the Gneerings yet but the blue water was there, on the eastern side of the
Inner Gneerings so it all looks good for the weekend. Virtually no wind predicted and seas
that have flattened right looks like the right recipe for some great diving this weekend.
RESCUE COURSE;
We have a Rescue Course scheduled to commence on Fri. 5th March/ Sat6th/ Sun 7th.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 8th February - 15th February 2010
HMAS BRISBANE;
We've had some good weather/bad weather this past week or so.

Conditions served up caused us to put a hold an a few trips during the week but we were back out on the water later in the week and over the weekend. There was some swell and chop but once again the visibility was good. Before the weather came in we had 20+ metres of viz and then Friday thru to Sunday the viz hovered between 8- 25 metres. Every day is different out on the wreck of the HMAS BRISBANE and if the viz is not the high point then the marine life is in abundance as it was this week. Queensland Grouper, big rays, octupus, the pelagics and reef species were all out in force making for a good dive and very happy divers.
GNEERING SHOALS;
Viz on the Gneering Shoals was from 8-10 metres and a reasonable amount of surge in the shallower areas which is expected after the swell that has been pushing through. No diving for a couple of days but we’re hopeful that we’ll be back out on the water by Thursday.
SOUTHWEST ROCKS TRIP;
Thanks Simon for looking after the guys on the recent trip to South West Rocks to dive the famous Fish Rock Cave.
The boys came back smiling after experiencing 25 metre viz and encountering 25-30 Grey Nurse Sharks, they were pumped.
Keep your eyes peeled for news on the next trip in July.
DIGITAL PHOTO WORKSHOP;
This weekend, 13th/14th Feb we have Nigel Marsh and Helen Rose coming our way to conduct an informative workshop on how to get better underwater digital pics. The wealth of knowledge and experience that these 2 folk have is worth tapping into. Contact the dive centre if you would like to attend and haven’t yet booked. Workshop Saturday 1pm, HMAS BRISBANE dive Sunday 7a.m. Get directions to Sunreef at Mooloolaba Queensland.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 27th January - 3rd February 2010
What a fantastic run we've had with the weather to date. Calm seas, great visibility and warm water, what more could a diver ask for?

Needless to say, we have had many very happy divers who have seen what the "Sunny Coast" has to offer underwater and also on top as well.
The HMAS BRISBANE has been hostess to a tremendous variety of marine life with Murtle the turtle still gracing the area with her presence, the huge Queensland Grouper have been seen time and time again as well as the many other varities of fish that have made their home on the ex HMAS BRISBANE. Hard and soft corals are now a real site to be seen as they take a good hold on the ship.
Dive sites on the Inner Gneerings have been serving up good viz too with reports of 12 and up to 20 metres viz on some days.
There may be a change to these stable conditions Sunday or early next week. We'll keep a close watch on developments.
The South West Rocks trip gets underway this weekend so we'll have a report on that next issue.
The Munda/Solomon Islands trip is now full and there are 2 spaces available on the Borneo dive trip.
Bookings are now open for the Vanuatu trip in November this year. Check the site for details on these trips.
We have a number of fully serviced ex hire scuba sets (regulator, occy, nav con computer and BCD) available for sale from $900.00. All of these units have had less than 2 years of use and are in excellent condition.
