HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 27th April - 4th May 2011

What a mixed bag we’ve been experiencing lately. We have had some really top dive conditions on HMAS Brisbane in between the rough stuff that has been plaguing us over these past months.Latest HMAS Brisbane Weather Forecast

The first couple of days over the Easter break were fantastic with calm seas and 7-10 metre visibility. After that though, it started to go a bit pear shaped and will stay that way during this week. Looks like an improvement on the weekend with the May day holiday and early next week looking really good. Don’t miss those good days, get in and book a dive now.

May is shaping up to be a busy month. With the long weekend to start off with, we have a group heading to Bundaberg to head out on MV Venus to Lady Musgrave Island plus our local trips here and an open water course commencing too.

Thursday sees 19 divers heading to Truk for 10 days and on Friday night we have a single night dive planned.
The following weekend we have a rescue course starting 7th & 8th.

We also have an Enriched Air course starting the following weekend (14th & 15th), an open water diver course on the Monday 16th with a search & recovery course the weekend 21st & 22nd May.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Report 13th April - 20th April 2011

What a sight it is to see some clear water and a let off from the rough seas that we’ve endured off and on lately. Latest HMAS Brisbane Weather Forecast

There was a bit of left over swell on Saturday but conditions were quite safe to dive with visibility a pleasant 15 -20 metres. Viz was patchy in parts and down to 5 metres in parts but the majority of the wreck was ‘bathed’ in 15-20 metre viz.

Diving in the Inner Gneerings on Sunday saw the conditions improving on the surface and viz at 15 metres at Fairyland.

Conditions this week have just gotten better. Viz on the Inner Gneerings yesterday was 25 metres and today, Wednesday, the viz on the ex HMAS BRISBANE is 30 metres easy once on the desk of the ship. Eagle Rays, Bull rays, Leopard sharks, the lot. These conditions look like holding for the weekend with maybe a bit of wind starting to come in on Sunday lunch time.

There’s still heaps of life around the wreck and something different to see every dive.
Blue Water will be open over the Easter break and we have dives planned to the HMAS BRISBANE every day and reef trips planned for Sunday and Monday. Bookings are heavy so if you’d like a dive over Easter, now is the time to book.

Lady Musgrave trip:

We have 2 spaces left on the Lady Musgrave dive trip this Friday night, Sat, Sun & Monday. A great opportunity to dive the Great Barrier Reef with up to 10 dives on offer along with all meals while on board.

Rescue Course:

We have a Rescue Diver Course scheduled for the weekend 7th & 8th May. There’s still room on this course if you would like to take your dive skills to another level, help build your confidence and be a more aware and safer diver.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Report 29th March - 5th April 2011

We saw some great dive conditions and clearer water to the end of last week. Sunday went a bit “pear shaped” however before that we saw 12-15 metres viz on the HMAS BRISBANE with calm seas and 10 viz at Mudjimba Island. Latest HMAS Brisbane Weather Forecast

It was quite calm hiding behind the island on Saturday afternoon but a bit of a slow trip back to port. Happy divers at the end of the day was the result, which is what we aim for.

The weather looks like easing Wednesday and we are hoping to get out from Wednesday on with the conditions improving as the week goes on and holding for the weekend by the look of predictions at this point.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Report 16th - 23rd March 2011

The tragedy in Japan now dominates the news and rightly so. What a disaster. What a mammoth job to sort and rebuild. Our hearts go out to all of those suffering through this terrible turn of events. Latest HMAS Brisbane Weather Forecast

The media has done a great job keeping the public informed about our problems with the weather here in Queensland but…. Not all of Queensland is affected. The Sunshine Coast has only felt the repercussions through cancelled bookings as people think the whole place has been devastated. I’ve got some GOOD NEWS. The Sunshine Coast hasn’t been affected at all. We’ve had some wind and rain but it’s life as usual here with no flooding or other damage at all.

Amidst the foul weather we’ve been experiencing State wide, we’ve and some great weather here. There have been days where the diving conditions and weather has been absolutely fantastic. This week and weekend is a great example of that. The wind has dropped, the seas have flattened and the fish life around is simply amazing. Visibility has continued to fluctuate from not so good to very good but what you may miss out on with the viz being down a bit at times is certainly made up for by the abundant fish and marine life, particularly around the HMAS BRISBANE.
“HMAS BRISBANE is an amazing site, always something new to see”. Chris Davey Brisbane 12.03.2011

Bookings are heavy for the weekend although there are still a few spots available and trips are planned every day during this week so grab a hold of this window of good diving weather and don’t miss out.
Keep your eyes peeled on the Channel 7’s Great South East at 5.30pm on Sundays. They will be doing an Anzac Day special within the next couple of weeks, featuring the HMAS BRISBANE. Don’t miss it. As soon as we hear a confirmed date, we’ll pass the info on.

Local diver and renowned videographer, Matt Guest recently went to Truk Lagoon with the ABC to film a documentary on the Japanese World War 11 wrecks there. This will be screened on Foreign Correspondent soon. There is some amazing footage that Matt has shot, keep your eyes peeled for this one. It was to be aired last night but the current situation in Japan was a priority so it may be a week or so before it goes to air.
Hope to see you on a dive with us soon,
