We've experienced some pretty ordinary weather lately which has slowed the diving activity. The good news is that the seas have settled and it's looking good for this weekend.
With very little wind predicted and virtually no swell expected, we are in for a good weekend on the water.
Visibility is improving with that much talked about "blue line" not far from our best dive territory. We're predicting that this will move in over the Gneerings and the HMAS BRISBANE site by the weekend giving us much improved visibility. Currently viz is between 5-10 metres depending on where you dive however by the weekend this should be up around the 10-15 metre mark. Water temp is on 22C.
Divers are still reporting hearing whales while on their dives and some guests were greeted by a huge Humpback whale right in front of the dive boat as they were getting ready to leave the HMAS BRISBANE site a couple of days ago.
We're getting excited!! Don't want to rub it in but 19 of us are heading to Vanuatu on Friday 29th for some diving in and around Port Vila and also Santo for 10 days. After Kel taking her group of 15 to the Solomons and Tony taking his group of 15 to Borneo this year it's now my turn. We'll spare you all a thought as we are sitting listening to the gentle lap of the water on the beach just metres away as we watch the sun set and hear the clinking of the ice in a long glass as we wait for our fish curry or local grilled crayfish to be served up...oh, there's diving as well in clear, warm, calm water and there's the wreck of the President Coolidge, too, can't wait!!
If you missed this one, you will have to be quick to get on the Truk Lagoon trip to dive world war II wrecks or the Tonga trip to snorkel dive with whales both happening next year, as these trips are almost full already. We've also just released details of our trip to dive with the Thresher sharks in the Philippines next year as well. That will be a winner too, don't miss out.

WWe dive the HMAS BRISBANE regularly as I’m sure everybody is aware, but the interesting thing is, we never cease to be amazed at the life and the amount of it on and around that wreck.
Now there is a great abundance of very colourful soft corals taking up residence on the deck and inside the ship.
There is a big contingent of huge Queensland Grouper around at the moment too. Matt filmed 10 of them on the sand near the bow a week ago and Ian Banks filmed 6 of them yesterday. There were big cobia buzzing around and all the regular king fish, travelly, etc etc.
The Gneering Shoals has been producing some equally good diving with 4 Grey Nurse sharks hanging around Wobby Rock and lots of fish as well. Water temp is sitting on 22C and viz has been up to 20 metre plus but is around 8-12 metres.
The viz on the HMAS BRISBANE is also on 8-12 metres with similar water temp.
The 3 day trip on MV Venus II to Lady Musgrave Island went well with all divers raving about the trip. The last couple of trips have filled very fast and our next one on 19th Nov is over half full also. If you are looking for some concentrated diving of excellent quality, then have a close look at this trip.
There’s been virtually no wind these past few days and the swell has dropped to about half a metre. This should hold for the next day or so but predictions are that it might start to blow again for the weekend. Let’s hope they’re wrong.

WOW!!! What a winter we've had with great visibility and it is still hanging in there with a good 20 metres viz over the weekend and 25 metres today.
Matt saw and filmed 10 huge Qld Grouper on Friday and today there were 6 just hanging about. The big Bull Ray is back as is Mertle the turtle. She just loves divers and isn't fazed by them at all. A couple of Eagle Rays along with the Jewies and Kingies etc etc were all there and of course don't forget the fishing tackle, some of it still had bait attached.
Entertainment during the surface interval was whales and whales and more whales with one passing very close to the dive boat and would have swum right over the bow of the HMAS BRISBANE. Divers had to sit it out as they still had more surface time to wait before gearing up for their second dive. On the way back to port just as they were passing "The Caves" on the Inner Gneerings, another whale show. What a day they had and there was no swell as we mentioned to a number who phoned up concerned about the big swell mentioned in the media weather reports.
Pics on facebook will prove the point, there was no swell here on the Sunny Coast.
