Some gentle northerly current and wind managed to bring in a little bit of dirtier water on Sunday with viz dropping to 12 metres on the HMAS BRISBANE.
However before that we had 20+ metres viz. With the Southwesterlies and westerlies we’ve had these past couple of days, it should clear up nicely for the rest of the week and the weekend.
The Gneerings and Mudjimba Island had a good 15 metres viz both Saturday and Sunday last.
Our divers sighted a Grey Nurse at Fairyland at the Inner Gneerings which was a buzz for all. Water temp is holding at 19C in most areas with a little fluctuation up to 20C and down to 18C depending on ocean currents.
Dive conditions are looking great for the weekend with virtually no swell at all and only light southwesterlies.

This fully restored 11'6" marine plywood ski was originally built in 1970.
It was modelled after the famous Prot-Craft 1948 surf ski..It has been recently restored by a master craftsman and along with the silky oak paddle is for sale.
It is ready for the water or as a collecter's item and would serve either roll very well.
This ski was used to reach local reefs such as the Gneering Shoals, Mudjimba Island, Cook Island and Palm Beach and Kirra Reefs etc. for free diving and a little spearfishing.

Whale watching is an awesome experience and many travel great distances to get a glimpse of these gentle
giants.
While diving the Inner Gneerings on Sunday some of our divers had the dive of a lifetime when a mother and her calf swam very close to them while underwater.
Then while on the surface between dives the whales came within 80 metre of the dive boat. Everyone was buzzing...what an experience.
Visibility was just on 15 metres on that dive with water temp registering between 19 and 20 degrees.
Viz on the HMAS BRISBANE improved through the weekend reaching 15 metres on Sunday.
The weather looks like it will be great for diving over the next week with Wednesday being an absolute pearler of a day. The weekend should hold with little swell and mostly southwesterly/northwesterly winds.
Grab your beanie and get on board to enjoy these great conditions while they last.
Tony is heading off on Friday with his group of adventurers. They head to Borneo to dive Sipadan and visit Sandakan. The good news about this is that it means that my trip to Vanuatu in late October with 19 other diving fanatics is just that little bit closer.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Report 10th August - 17th August 2010
Once again there has been some awesome diving happening out on the Gneerings and the HMAS BRISBANE.
Visibility has fluctuated from 10 metres up to 25+metres over this past week. We had some serious wind on Tuesday that caused us to cancel dives however that was the only negative for the week.
The night dive on Saturday night was a real winner. Divers reported heaps of marine life on the big ship. It has also been 'nudibranch week' with reports of heaps of various species being identified
on the ship, at Mudjimba Island and also the Gneering Shoals.
The strong wind today Tuesday, will put activities on hold but conditions for the rest of the week look good for diving right through to the weekend.
The group who are heading to Borneo on 19th August with Tony are getting excited. I'm sure it will be a great trip. Then it's a bit of a wait for my group of 20 who will be heading to Vanuatu to dive Port Vila and Santo in November. Can't wait for that one.

Dive HMAS Brisbane Report 3rd August - 10th August 2010
31st July saw the 5th year anniversary of the scuttling of the former HMAS BRISBANE as a dive wreck/artificial reef off Mooloolaba.
What a success it has been. When you dive the HMAS Brisbane we will see the life that is there, it is just amazing.
I am sure the manner in which the soft and hard corals have colonised and the diverse marine life that now calls the BRISBANE it's home, has stunned everyone.
As a thank you for the support we've had from divers over the 5 years, Blue Water offered a free Enriched Air course to a lucky diver on the day. Mark Killip was that lucky guy. He has now completed the entire course with another 2 dives, using Nitrox, on the BRISBANE today.
Although some may consider it too cool for diving, those who are prepared to don a hood or a Lavacore vest, are enjoying what winter diving has to offer. Once again the viz has cleared to 20 metre plus today (Monday 2.08.20) Sunday, divers reported seeing Grey Nurse sharks at Shellacey Reef and heaps and heaps of nudibranchs.
LADY MUSGRAVE; Only a brief report on the Lady Musgrave trip as at this point I've only had a short phone call saying that the troops are on their way home and all are smiling, had a great time, saw manta rays and sharks and everybody seemed quite 'pumped' about the diving. Sounds like they enjoyed it!!!
NIGHT DIVE; There's another night dive planned for the HMAS BRISBANE on 7th August. There are a couple of spaces left.
Checkout the dive holiday page - Overseas Trips as details of 2 of our trips for next year are posted there. i.e. Tonga and Truk Lagoon. There is another more economical trip being planned but as yet isn't finalised. Details will follow.
