HMAS Brisbane Dive Report 21 - 28 September 2011

Glass Like Water and Amazing Clarity

What magnificent conditions. Don’t miss them!!!! We’ve been experiencing 15-25 metre viz and absolutely flat, mirror sea conditions lately.Latest HMAS Brisbane Dive Forecast It doesn’t get any better than this. Divers are coming back to the dive centre just raving about the dives they have been having. We’re diving every day this week and over the weekend. Check out our adventures on www.facebook.com/Blue Water.

Unfortunately this good weather also brings out the illegal fishermen and a young diver managed to get a large gang hook stuck deeply into her finger yesterday while diving the HMAS BRISBANE.

This was the result of illegal trolling around the wreck and hooks getting caught on our transit line. Thanks to Denice for her help with the situation and forfeiting her dive to take care of Stef.

These conditions look like continuing. There may be a bit of a spike in the wind strength on Wednesday but there’s no swell to really pose a problem for us. After that, it will quieten down again to give us more of what we’ve been having.

Diving with a buddy is a necessary safety procedure while scuba diving. It enhances your dive because 4 eyes are better than 2, and it is someone to share the experience with under the water and again on top after the dive. Also, in case of any problem that may arise, your buddy should be right there to assist. It is also a necessary procedure to keep your eye on your buddy. Don’t rely on them keeping up with you, look and check on a regular basis. These are basic skills that should be emphasised during open water training however we see all too often, divers who don’t pay enough attention to their buddy. Be aware of where your buddy is in case you or they need assistance. If that need should arise, there is no time to go swimming off to look for him or her. They should be close enough to reach within a couple of kicks of your fins.

Matt and the gang of 19 are off to Malascapua in the Philippines to dive the Thresher sharks in just under 2 weeks time and then it’s my turn to head off. For me it’s Santo with a group of 15 of us in the middle of October, can’t wait.

Dive safe,

Harry and the Blue Water crew.

Looking into the week ahead weather conditions are going to be perfect. Forecast is for under a metre of swell with winds maxed out at around 10 knots. This could not be more opportunistic for a night dive... which we have planned for this Saturday the 17th. What an opportunity if you're on holidays at the Sunshine Coast.
